Web Browser Tests (2014)

With IE12 shortly under way, I started to look around at browser comparisons and reviews..

I ended up finding some interesting tests comparing web browsers: http://blog.en.uptodown.com/browser-comparison-chrome-firefox-explorer-opera/ and http://blog.mid.as/2013/11/13/best-web-browser-internet-explorer-11-firefox-25-opera-17-safari-5/

I know Chrome is on 36 but it's not too much different. As Chrome is still such a memory hog. I only found that article cool because people have been bagging on IE, yet it's not completely terrible anymore.

Anyway IE11 loads really quick

and uses such low amounts of memory

it has the best performance with Sunspider and its CSS3 compliance is on par with Chrome, but it lost in everything else.

*faster is better

*more points is better

In a more recent review, Chrome 36 vs. IE11, this was said: "Internet Explorer 11 scored 369 with Html5 which is 27% slower than Chrome 36 which scored 505 with Html5. Internet Explorer 11 scored 10336 with Octane which was 41% slower than Chrome 36 which scored 17254 with Octane. Internet Explorer 11 scored 2104 which was 43% slower than Chrome 36 which scored 3665 with Peacekeeper. Internet Explorer 11 completed the Sunspider benchmark in 149ms which was 32% faster than Chrome 36 which did it in 219ms. Internet Explorer 11 was beaten by Chrome 36 by 41% Overall."

With IE12 shortly to be released, who knows where the placements will be. If Windows keeps up their trend, IE12 might be a huge competitor and fix its compliance issues. It's already faster than the rest and uses less memory than the rest.. now if it can get the rest down, I just might switch.

Do you think any of the browsers offer performance or something else that would make you switch your current browser to something else?

honestly i don't really buy into the hype of what browser is better. I remember a few years ago it seemed like firefox was the browser for so called power users with all the available add-ons but all the other browsers seems to have most of these functions now. historically i've just hated IE and even if they get an amazing update chances are i won't switch. All in all I usually just use the browser that is the most pleasing to me or has simple add-ons or extensions i want.
