Wearables

Hi guys, I just wanted to know your thoughts on the future of wearables. I've been strangely drawn to the LG G Watch recently, but I'm very aware how useless it is.

This feels a little bit like returning to the days of pagers. Which, when you think about it, were wearable (on your belt). They notify you about things on your phone, and you have minimal interaction with the watch itself, and have to get your phone out anyway. I don't really use voice-to-text conversion on my Android, so having to use it on a watch doesn't really appeal. And what if  you switch Operating Systems on your phone? Does it then become useless (obviously the Apple Watch will be, but the Google Wear line too?).

I like what people are doing to them though. Putting a DOSBox version of Windows 95 is a fun idea, if not a bit silly...

What do you think is going to happen next?

I don't know much about the wearable market but I don't want a tiny little watch sized screen; I want a fingerless gauntlet with a bendable screen that wraps around my forearm.

I like the idea of that. You see the (horrible) remake of Total Recall? He had a phone implanted into his hand. Kind of like that, but with a screen?

Well, with my Pebble, I don't miss any notifications anymore and my phone gets a lot less on-screen time.  Compatible with both Android and iOS, so that's a plus.

My friend has a moto 360, and he enjoys it a ton. But then again he's the type of person that likes to buy and mess with new technology. With his watch he is always on the search for new uses and cool things, while with smartphones people just find more and more uses for them. I don't think the technology or more importantly society is ready to adopt wearables like they did with smartphones.
