I think that if there is a unifying theme in the teksyndicate community, it's that customization and modding/hacking things to work best for you is better than pre-packed solutions. For that reason, I'd say it's better that we all just learn the fundamentals of linux, which is to say how to use, customize, and repair the system regardless of your package manager, window manager, or pre-installled software.
I think there are great distros for beginners intermediates, and experts to jump in and learn, and over time, you may find that the best thing for you is a combination of Arch, maybe with RPM, a specific kernal, with specific patches, a blend of open source and proprietary drivers and software, and so on and so forth. That as far as I am concerned would be the true TekLinux OS.
+1 for TekSyndicate wallpapers though!
i think you are completely missing the point behind this..
I was being sarcastic..
That's what this means ----> /s
ahh ok sorry, thanks for clarifying.
your right, doesn't mean we want them here. we should be able to have an educated discussion without being told that we are retarded by people who don't know anything about us.
If having our own OS is too big of a commitment I really like the idea of having a Tek themed OS instead.
I don't see a point, just have @wendell or @DeusQain make config scripts for Debian or Ubuntu LTS to "Tekify" it . I remember there were so many Distros that were just Ubuntu+Stuff.
Features proposal for TekLinux OS:
Arch based
Only 'vi' available
Audio development stuff for Logan's music
PlayOnLinux preconfigured with Skyrim installed (not free as in beer)
Sound good? Get to work!
There are a myriad of reasons we wouldn't use Arch.
Mostly security concerns.
TekSyn does not need an OS. And you really have no idea what would be need to make and maintain an OS.
contrary to your belief, i do in fact know what is involved with making and maintaining an OS. however you are missing the point of this thread. It has less to do with the actually making of the OS and more to do with the idea of making things yourself if you cant find anything that someone else has made that is any good.
Agreed! No matter what justification is provided, advertising is anti-people and pro-consumption/pro-profit. I would always use adblock. ALWAYS. No matter what the consequences. It's part of why I prefer to listen to RMS over ESR (who I respect as a hacker, but don't think much of otherwise).
Well, do you have a few million bucks to throw at the R&D?
If you need help setting up n125 killer WiFi, message me :)
No. But that's not the point. Advertising is the industry that takes money away from valuable R&D and puts it into meaningless consumerism-driven "R&D". Example? Compare the resistance against free public college in most countries and the rush to pour money into newer cars and more powerful bombs. One of the greatest Cognitive Neuroscience labs in Itally, SISSA, and one of the biggest names in A.I. and higher cognition, Marina Nespor, is having to close her lab and move to Greece because her lab was defunded.
So, unless you have specific evidence that is non-rhetorical in nature, please don't lecture me about R&D. I work in a R&D lab... the difference is we don't do research to create newer products for consumption. We do it for the sake of understanding and knowledge. I know it sounds self-righteous. But it's not. Read Feynman.
What.
So, do I sense a "may be" there.... (please please please)!
Ututo XS, a GNU/Linux distribution based on Gentoo. It was the first
fully free GNU/Linux system recognized by the GNU Project.
?
Aren't you a fan of gentoo?
And is it true that installing gentoo requires the sacrifice of 2 goats and a virgin to get it working properly?
