They're made for RAID configs. I recommend getting a seagate barracuda, they're cheaper and will perform better, or if you want to spend that much money on a mechanical drive then a WD Black.
I will never buy Seagate again. My first 1TB Barracuda 7200 rpm drive started making death noises after 3 months. I RMA'd it, got a new one. within two weeks, same problem from the "refurbished drive" they sent me. I RMA'd that one, Currently on my 3rd drive. I will never buy seagate again.
There is no reason to use red drives the WD Blue and WD Black drives are good soild drives for desktop use.
(i agree seagates are not very good...thay used to make great drives years ago but havent now for some years)
I've had a Seagate 7200rpm 1.5tb HDD since 2008, its been running well and has been used in 3 different builds. I've had nothing good experiences with Seagate hard drives.
As far as specs are concerned the red is similar to the black and yet cheaper. The red 2tb costs £40 less than the 2tb black. Would I have issues running the red in a normal pc or would it perform like a normal HDD?

not necessarily the best for the price for standard use, but they are normal drives, nothing stopping you from using them
My 2 1TB black drives have preformed up to standards since I made my PC. I've had no problems with them. I was looking at the reds but had gotten a recommendation from a friend for the blacks.
