unless you got a loose while loop/thread, in your code, which would just kill your system regardless of price.

Can confirm, I accidentally left a while true in my code once, crippled my 1700x immediately and 32GB of ram was used up in about 90 seconds.

id grab a laptop with a descent GPU, so you can game some, most likely that’s gonna be what you and your school buddies are doing after hours.

I think OP mentioned he already has a Desktop for this.

I think the worst stress i ever put my laptop to while studying was running a linux dev vm, maybe a second vm running a server app.

Honestly, with Docker for Windows and WSL, Linux VMs may be a thing of the past. Not that I advocate using Windows for development, just that using a VM for Linux is not the most efficient method anymore.
