I'm here to ask all forum goers about this quandary. What are your opinions on the r9 280x? Should I wait for a 960 that will probably take its time or get the 280x in the sale? I can't decide. I'm looking to upgrade my gpu to an nVidia in 2-3 years time and the same goes for my 4690k. I'm getting a z97-a aswell. Should I get the 280x and get another later or completely sell out to nVidia and get their top of the line when I need it? Answers in reply.
yeah go for the 280x or if u can find the 285 AMD GPU: i have the 970 and 290 and really bro there isnt a deff... people that say AMD drivers are crap, are just talking crap.. why wait when u can have the same if not better performance now.
The issue with waiting, is that you can always be waiting for whats around the corner...
mobo are comming out soon with USB 3.1, should you wait till then?? AMD 370 or 380 will come out sometime in the future, maybe wait till then..
Also from that the specs are being indicated : 128 bit bus, and 1000 + cuda cores, i don't know if it will be faster then 280x.. if the speeds are the same, then you would of wasted time holding out for something that didn't offer better experience.
i like my 970, but i find the experience to be the same to my 290, and the 290 kicks ass in opencl ( that isnt just benchmarks)
if anyone is interested in cosmology, and creating simulations check out "universe sandbox 2 alpha".. uses opencl for body/gravity) and the 290 has no issue when lots of shit is happening, the 970, well its a great gaming card , not so much in real non optimized opencl applications.
