VPN(PIA) Killing my Connection

I recently purchased and installed Private Internet Access on my Desktop and have been unable to use it due to it dropping ONLY my download speed from 20-35mb/s to about 2-3mb/s.

Speed Test WITH VPN

Speed Test WITHOUT VPN

I'm aware I'm supposed to lose a bit of "speed" with a VPN but I didn't think it would decimate my download without touching my upload. Any help or insight as to why this is would be greatly appreciated.

I get different speeds based on where I connect to. Use PIA as well. It does a decent job for me I have a 50 down, and 10 up connection. Only notice the latency if I try to game on it.

Couple of hints/suggestions:

To which server is PIA connecting to?

Restart your computer?

Make sure the Network Adapter for the VPN properly installed.

I've used Auto connection (chooses the closest/best server) and I've tried using all of the US servers (I'm west coast US). All of the servers give pretty much the same 2-3mb/s up and the same download.

This has been going on for a week with multiple PC restarts in between.

Can you elaborate on "Make sure the Network Adapter for the VPN properly installed"? I'm not sure if you're referring to my desktop's network card or something else entirely.

The Network Adapter I'm referring to is the one which PIA installed on your system in order to make sure you can connect to their servers. It is similar to one that is installed by Virtualbox.  It is usually called TAP WIN 332 Adapter or some derivation of that.
