VPN blocked from source?

Based off the advice of @The_Cable I'll start a new thread

I've been using PIA without any issues for a about six months now. However, I've encountered two problem since then which rendered the VPN useless. The first was when I was connected to a military WiFi connection (yes, they exist but they're rare) and the second when I was teaching a two day course at some local community college. Both times my VPN would not connect. I did some research and read that it has to do with blocking ports from the source side. Anybody have any thoughts, and more importantly, a work-around to this?

Change from UDP to TCP in the client settings.
If it is still unable to connect, turn off dns leak protection and manually set DNS-servers in network prefs. and see if that helps. I've had some issues in the past with dns leak protection on a few hotel Wi-Fi's resulting in no connection.
I'm dumb as a rock with networking stuff, but this has been my experience(s) for the past year I've been a PIA customer.

VPN servers tend to have static IPs which make them very easy to block with a firewall, if that's the case there isn't a lot you can do about it.
