Vmfs 6 datastore no longer mounts esxi

I have a esxi server that I shutdown for maintenance and now the data store doesn’t mount, I’ve tried to remount it from the cli to no avail. It has a single vmdk file I need from it desperitly.

I’m looking for someone to help me get it mounted so I can pull the vmdk or if someone is offering to recover it this file is worth a couple of bucks to me (about 1.8tbs)

I really need this file by Tuesday, #Lifeofaitguy

Help! Help! Help!

Is the datastore a single drive, a RAID array, or an NFS store? Are you able to see if you can mount this datastore on another server or computer to see if you can extract the VMDK?

It’s on a raid array on the host it seems that the partition is intact but just wolnt mount. I Tryed to use vmfs-tools on Ubuntu on the host but I leaned that doesn’t support vmfs6

Esxi reconginzes the disk device at it’s full size, it just wolnt mount the partition so I can pull data

Can you load up a fresh install of ESXi on a USB drive and try booting it off that, and then try to mount the Datastore? It would at least rule out something funky going on with your primary ESXi install, and likely tell us if there is something wrong with the RAID array

I have already tried fresh install, I dont understand why it fails to mount is there a log it spits?

Both esxi installs see it as mountable file system but wolnt mount it

Restore from backup?

First things first, if this is production and work is paying, have you called VMware support?

Fucking around with things BEFORE calling support when you get stuck does reduce your chances of getting it sorted out successfully.

I’ve dealt with VMware support several times and they are worth paying for, even if you need to pay a one off for the free version of the hypervisor if needed.

This is free esxi in trail version, we are preparing to licence up ( 6g) so I don’t have support yet. I’ll give them a call and see what I can get done but this is coming out if my pocket ATM so I’m pretty sure I cant afford thier support I probly only have 5-600 bucks floating to get this resolved.

Also no back up yet because I’m stupid and thought “Il get one set up in a few days” so on day 10 it decides to mess up. Lesson learned

the tldr here is the raid array had failed and I lost everything, but valuable lesson was learned lol
