Do you have same issue with other guest OSs running on VBox or just FreeBSD?

Perhaps issue with guest OS configuration? (is it running a basic config or have u modified in any way)
Also it might be worth checking if there are any updates for vbox / vbox kernel drivers or recompile drivers? (have u updated kernel recently and have a vbox using drivers for the wrong version)

Also it is worth getting more debug logging info (Virtualbox website have a page on troubleshooting)

just wild guesses.

I’ve had the same issue on Fedora 31 after a recent kernel update (Kernel 4.5.7), it has also happened from time to time in the past when there has been a kernel update.

I think it’s to do with the Virtual Box kernel mode drivers not being updated. As far as I know the VirtualBox binaries from the Fedora repos are re-builds and not official and, in my experience, seem to be a bit hit and miss. (They are also a couple of releases behind the official builds)

To solve the problem I have switched to using the official builds from virtualbox.org.

You can either download the RPM from virtualbox.org and install it manually or (what I have recently done) add the virtual box repo to Fedora and install from there.

The steps to do this can be found here

If you go this route, make sure to completely remove the Virtual Box installation that came form the Fedora repos first (including VirtualBox server), the install from the official repo will re-install compatible versions.
