Virtual Surround Software, Best Choice

Hey all,
I just ordered my Audio Technica AUD ATHAD500X headphones for playing CS:GO. I chose them because I know they have great positional audio to tell where around you things are due to their large soundstage.
I was wondering if anyone knew what the best choice for virtual surround software was for help with positional audio. Currently with my crappy Tritton 720+ headset I use the free version of Razer Surround Audio. Is there a better choice, or am I using it already? Or rather, is it best just not to use virtual surround software? I need education on this matter.

It's probably better to not use Virtual Surround, I've tested with a couple of different software's and none of them worked all that great. Most audio engines have support for positional audio so just run with the vanilla experience.

this may sound stupid, but do you mean the audio engine for the game? Lol I know little about audio.
Also, I found the Razer surround did help quite a bit, but that's just my opinion. I guess I was just wondering if I was missing out on a better experience than even that.

Just use stereo on a headset with a good sound stage (semi-open or open)... you only have two ears... if you had three it might be a thing?

That's like saying a new TV is capable of 4-D movies

The positional audio is encoded by the game engine so all I actually need to hear good positional sound is my Fostex phones plus my USB DAC/Amp. Just verify the surround, 5.1 option is selected in the game though many games just do it automatically.

I still have the Razer surround installed as it's a quick way to check stuffs working plus it's a quick way to switch between outputs.

I remember looking up the benefits of surround sound in headphones a while ago, both virtual and physical surround sound in headphones.
The biggest thing that sold me on the idea of sticking to stereo is listening to binaural audio. Stick your headphones on, go listen to the virtual barbershop on YouTube then try and claim that you need surround sound in headphones. You couldn't get much better than that for a demonstration of positional audio.

Due to the distance between your ears and your headphone's ear cups you wouldn't be able to tell which speaker was playing audio.

can you recommend a good usb dac amp?

Monoprice Desktop Headphone Amplifier, costs about $100 and it does a really good job!

great, I'll look into it, along with any other ones people suggest. I've never been an audiophile, but I'd like to be, hahaha!
