Is the any alternative to virtual audio cable? This is the only thing that is stopping me from switching over to linux. I like to separate my game audio from my chat audio.
Why can you not just set the chat to use your head set and games to use the speakers.
Because I record gameplay and sometimes I want to mute a part of chat without muting the game and myself when editing.
Ah I see now. Okay. Sorry I am no help.
Take a look at JACK. It allows you to create virtual audio connections and maps with both ALSA and PortAudio. The Windows version doesn't work very well in my experience though, so I would suggest you try it in a VM or a metal install to test it.
If you want to stay with Windows, try this - Voicemeeter mixer.
I work on an internet talk radio station with a number of presenters using both Windows and GNU/Linux. The radio programs rely on having Skype conversations mixed with music. Nobody on the station found a reliable way to keep VAC repeaters stable for 2 or more hours needed for a show.
I used to have multiple stereo setup using older Creative Audigy card and alternative drivers [kxproject] that could be mixed and routed in firmware, but this is now old and only properly supported up to win7 32bit.
I switched to Linux and the options using JACK apps give unlimited options to connect, process and route sound streams. This has more flexibility than any Windows option I ever used
