So far I've tried all the things that smg and roblm at this link https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=388655&start=20  which is a forum I've been a member of for many years now, and  I can't seem to get above 60hz at UHD rez ..... with a 7900 xtx

BUT..with my older 8GB sapphire nitro+ rx 580  I'm at UHD at 98hz.   How is that possible?    It makes no sense to me. 

And yes my psu is beefy enough  850 watt seasonic titanium efficiency

I CAN...hit 144hz in Winturd 10 pro 64 bit after i've installed the correct driver from amd.com for my 7900xtx ..but ONLY using hdmi 2.1 ( odd but whatever)

Also tried two different dp cables ( including the one that came included with the ViewSonic xg320u box) and the hdmi 2.1 cable that came included and tried both ports on the 7900xtx as well as ensuring i power cycle the pc and monitor upon trying different cables and plug ins each time.

Update.

I’m using a different 27 inch Asus tek monitor’s edid.bin ( had to convert it from edid.txt to edid.bin using roblim’s instructions at that forums.linuxmint.com’s page)

Now on kernel 6.0.0-1010-oem ( obtained with sudo apt install linux-oem-22.04b -y )

I’m at 98hz at 3840x2160p rez

Tried to install ubuntu 22.04 vanilla and enable wayland…but could never see the the cog in the bottom righthand area TO enable that login option just to try wayland out.
