Video Games Critic TotalBiscuit (John Bain) to Retire Due To Illness

Theres the reddit article that he wrote, or had ghost written.

So essentially TB has had cancer for a while, and now his liver is hardening up. He can’t do more chemo and unless something magical happens, he is going to die in anywhere from weeks to months. He didn’t put a time, but knowing his condition from my Uncle’s it’ll be 3-5 months most likely.

IDK what to really say for him, or if there is anything to say. When he’s gone we’ll probably have a shittier games industry, and the cooptional podcast will either be gone or not the same.

IDK I’m sad. Doesn’t seem like anyone is talking about it so I thought I’d post something here.

This will be a great loss to the gaming world as a whole. He seems like he’s come to terms with it though so hopefully he can just have a really enjoyable last few months…

Best of luck to him. I didn’t go all in when it comes to following his content but he was a quality reviewer.

I really hope that he can find some way to fight this. He’s way too young to die. I encourage everyone to go watch his initial video when he revealed that he had cancer. If you suspect that something might be wrong with you, go see a doctor before it’s too late. People tend to think that something like that can’t happen to them. It can. Total Biscuit waited too long and that mistake might cost him his life. And that’s absolutely terrifying.

Really sad to hear. He always made it clear that time was ticking, but it’s still a bit of a gut punch. Here’s hoping that he able to turn things around somehow. I’ve always thoroughly enjoyed his reviews and the Co-Optional podcast was a great enjoyment for me during some pretty rough times. TB became sort of the Jon Stewart of gaming youtubers. Its been fun to see all the folks that have worked with him spin off and become successful as well. I still watch Jesse Cox and Crendor’s content quite frequently.

He’s retiring from games critique. He is not stopping youtube or streaming, and when health allows he’ll still be on the co-optional podcast.

The only thing I can think of there is how sorry I am that even in his final weeks he’s still working explicitly because he has too. The idea of still being an internet personality even at this stage boggles my mind. He’s probably thinking he’ll put away whatever he can for the family, and the idea he has to do that kind of work in this state just makes me sad.

Well he’s from britain. People do that there.

He does not have to continue todo it. He does all of this because he enjoys it and honestly dying doing something you love would be a pretty good way to go

I read something on his subreddit where the mod put out a message for him that he’s doing it “to feed the family”

TB should still make videos even if in pain, he could also include any pain to show how much of a character he has. Then turn off comments. No need to make it “the positive vs the negative people”

He’s already turned off comments haha.
