I bought one of these. It works while booted in an OS but doesn’t work during POST or in the BIOS. My monitor only has digital inputs, so I’d just like a way to get VGA video onto it. Currently, I have a second old monitor I use when configuring servers that only have VGA.
My best guess is that the USB port needs to be initialized by a kernel for it to work. It’s possible that’s because the audio is passed through the USB and that a model with a separate analog audio cable might not have this problem, but I don’t want to play Amazon roulette and buy a ton of things to figure it out. At least, not if someone here already knows what device to use.
Thanks in advance for all assistance.
Before someone Googles “VGA to HDMI adapter” and dumps all the results here. Almost all of those only work HDMI -> VGA and not VGA -> HDMI which requires additional power or communication with the host (hence the usb connection above).
Also, if I have the choice, VGA to DP is preferable over VGA to HDMI.
