Vanguard from Riot Games requires mandatory TPM 2.0 to function/killswitch on Windows 11

It means after a lawsuit in the EU, everyone in the world will have to click yes and on a popup saying they agree to everything under the sun, right after they accept the EULA demanding the same thing.

So honestly nothing would change.

Imagine trying to buy a used computer and having to figure out if it has already been banned from your favorite game…

While the cynic in my would tend to agree, I’d hope it won’t end up like that.

As to those cookie/tracking banners I imagine you are referring to:

  • opting out must be just as easy as opting in (often violated, but this seems to be improving, so I imagine people are getting slaps on the wrists)
  • making the UI confusing to try to dupe people into acceptance is a GDPR violation (pretty common this one)
  • the acceptance of tracking cannot be used as a prerequisite for accessing the content (only seen this once)
  • you don’t need them if not serving third party cookies, or tracking users (it’s why Github doesn’t have one…)

I’ve noticed that it seems companies are starting to take their responsibilities under the GDPR more seriously. Given the law’s been in effect for 3 years now I suspect the EU has been turning on the thumbscrews behind the scenes.

If you want privacy and are that worried about it why are you complaining about TPM on windows 11 and not running qubes or tails?

The windows privacy ship sailed a very long time ago. Like… decades.

Gaming should be split off from your ā€œworkā€ or ā€œpersonalā€ box if you have any care about this stuff.

You can replace your TPM chip with another for 12 bucks, so whats stopping cheaters just replacing the module when they get banned and using another account?

Windows won’t boot unless you properly clear the TPM settings out first.
