At least from what I've read, it's only for DirectX 9. Which would still be useful for porting older games, but considering DirectX 12 being right around the corner, I don't know how big of a difference it will make.
wow this sounds great, hopefully we can ditch direct x all together.

I really like that the article brings up the best point, though they skip talking about what makes this so great. Companies that have produced games on DX9 can port them over with minimal effort to test out the market. That brings a bunch of their games to MacOSX and Linux users as well as give us the chance to tell the companies what kind of games we want.
skyrim uses DX9... skyrim with mods on linux.... I can only dream
