My laptop has a assist button which gets you into the bios, however I can’t get in. It doesn’t work. I have tried all the function keys.
I have tried to boot into windows. But the person I got this computer from said he had to replace the motherboard. I know there is a bios, or I wouldn’t be able to get into windows. But I just need this to work, so I can select the boot option. Rage!
Update: I don’t know what happened to cause it to spark. But it won’t power on now.
I was going to suggest unplugging the hard drive. This usually keeps it from trying to immediately boot into Windows.
My brother’s brand new laptop boot looped itself during an update, and wasn’t able to use the shortcut to get to the BIOS.
But it looks like you have larger issues.
Unplug both the battery and hard drive. Then try to turn on the laptop with the power adapter plugged in. See if that gets you to BIOS. If you can get into BIOS, remember to change the boot order to USB first, so you can boot to a fresh install of Windows.
