Hello,
A job I worked during the summer was throwing away a NetApp FAS2554 SAN. It was just the one 4U disk shelf with 24 drive slots. Not being one to pass up free hardware (and wanting to expand my homelab) I saved it from being recycled.
I replaced the two Processor Control Modules (PCM) with an IOM6 module to convert the device from a full-on SAN to just a “dumb” disk shelf (Like a DS4246). This has been working perfectly with my TrueNAS box since.
I now have these two controller modules hanging around gathering dust and I’m wondering if there is anything I could do with them. Obviously I could sell them or take out the CPUs and memory, but do you guys know of anything else that could be done with them? They seem to have pretty good I/O which would be nice to take advantage of in some way, but the connectors they use are (unsurprisingly) completely proprietary.
Any suggestions are welcome.
