Use Raspberry Pi or similar instead of Z-wave for home automation

I have just found out that the thermostats and home security system are all "Z-wave enabled" honeywell units.

My question is if there is a way to use an inexpensive arm dev board to serve as a replacement to a "z-wave controller" for these units.

The units specifically are the Honeywell TH8320ZW1007/U thermostat (total of 2) and the Honeywell L5100 LYNX home alarm panel (total of 3). Both would need the z-wave controller upgrade units to be able to speak to the z-wave controller naively.

I would like to be able to control the thermostat's schedule remotely via a web interface as well as arm and disarm the house, preferably with email or text alerts when the home security system is disarmed.

I do home security professionally and z-wave. You will find that z-wave can not control your security system. It works the other way around. The security system can control z-wave equipment.
Although I am not familiar with that exact security system so I could be wrong.
The systems I set up have an app that is linked to your security through the internet. Then the security can control all the z-wave in your home.
O wait is this post a year old? O well I already typed all that.
