So apparently this is a prevalent problem: when plugging in and recording a USB Mic (an audio-technica AT2020 in my case, same one Logan uses I believe) on a Windows 8 or 8.1 machine, the recording comes out way too quiet.
I have spent a few hours now on forums trying to see if there is some way to fix this or whether there is a least a fix by Microsoft somewhere on the horizon. However the only suggestion I have found so far is to increase the mic volume in Windows itself which of course also increases the background noise (and according to many people was also not necessary on Windows 7). If any of you have information about this that could be helpful than please share it, because all I have found so far seems to suggest that it is a native Windows 8 driver issue that was not present in Windows 7. And since Windows 8 has been out for a while now and the problem persists, it doesn't seem to be very high on Microsoft's agenda of things that need fixing. I wonder how Logan gets his recordings to sound so loud and crisp. He is using the Windows 10 Technical Preview as far as I know so could it be that a fix is coming? Or is there something else that I'm missing? Any help is greatly appreciated!
