The specification for USB type C includes the use of the port as a display port. Most B350 and X370 boards don’t have a DP beside a HDMI port.

Is it possible to use the type C as a DP on Ryzen boards?

Does it matter whether it is connected directly via the CPU or indirectly via the southbridge?

The USB-port would need to support DP Alt mode, in which case it would work.
