USB audio interface crackles on fedora

KVM Model:

USB-C KVM Switch v3 (with USB Power Delivery / 135watts

USB Interface (5-gigabit or 10-gigbit):

not sure, it is the usb c combiner


Problem:

Audio from my usb interface is crackly on Fedora 41. When I replay the same sounds from my mac or from my phone connecting to the interface directly, I don’t get the crackle.

I am not sure if the issue is with the combiner or the KVM
here’s how I have the setup.

I’ve tried the following configurations

Input Result
PC-> combiner → KVM Crackling occurs
Windows Laptop → USB C Switch → KVM Crackling occurs
PC → combiner → USB C Switch USB Devices not detected
PC → combiner → USB C Switch → KVM USB Devices not detected
PC → combiner → Monitor USB C input No issues
mac → USB C switch-> KVM No issues, mouse not detected on front HID port

Further debugging notes

I used the out of the box settings, switching between the two switch settings doesn’t reduce the crackling. Nothing happened when I changed the usb c combiner either

I don’t think it is the usb c cable either because when my interface was plugged into the monitor, it didn’t have the crackling. On my rtx 2070, the crackling didn’t have any issues with the usb c switch either

What is the USBC switch you’re describing here? Also, do you have the spare power plugged into the combiner? Try putting the back switch into U3 mode for more bandwidth to the USBs…? Idk maybe the Presonus is a bandwidth hog…

Nope, just the USB b input

From the KVM side? Or both KVM and combiner? It seems to be a issue when the cable doesn’t go directly to the monitor’s USB C input

Possible as it is a mic, instrument, and speaker interface

I have no idea because this only occurs on my Linux desktop and windows laptop (when it is connected to the switch), but doesn’t happen with my macbook or when I connect my windows laptop directly to the kvm.

Wendell said to try raising your USB pollling rate.

I would definitely connect the spare power.

On the KVM, it working PC → Combiner → Monitor makes me inclined to say the combiner’s setting is correct

This just has it for mouse/keyboard/joysticks

This causes my screen and USB to cut out on my mac and didn’t fix the crackling issues

I would email “wendell at level1techs dot com” for more support. I’m not sure what the issue is here.
