Upgrading to X99

Looking to upgrade to X99. I have a $3000 limit.

Mobo: ASRock X99 WS LGA2011
CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K
CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H110i GTX Cooling
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB (8 x 8GB) DDR4 DRAM 2133MHz
PSU: Corsair HX1000i
Boot Drive: Samsung SM951 512GB M.2
Case: Fractal Design Define R5

In total it comes out at $1,982.98 on amazon. GPU wise I'm keeping my 770's for now. The R5 doesn't support eATX but I think i can make it work.

If I were you I'd wait til pascal. I say that after having bought two titan x's used but I'll be waiting til volta.

Why would you need an eATX board though...

otherwise pick up one of the 4k 40" korean displays, the wasabi mango has the best panel overall, though if you wanted to take advantage of free-sync you may want to grab a FuryX*2 whenever that comes out

yeah its not supported by default but it does fit, since Logan uses that particular board in his FD R5

If you want eatx look at phanteks they have just as good if not better quality as fractal.

I have a Asus x99 ws and really like it but will you use it's features ?

Not only that, but a 5820k on a board without a PLX chip that is EATX doesn't make too much sense. I'd consider a cheaper alternative like the Fatality X99X

I'll be using the board for basically everything from gaming to 4k video editing. This motherboard also has stability which is one of the reasons i chose it. I plan to run plex on it as well, no nas yet.

From what I know, the Asus X99 WS does have an extra PLX chip.

Otherwise the build looks good

In the "op" we talk about the Asrock X99 WS, there are 3 diffrent versions of that particular board.

  • 1: Asrock X99 WS which is an E-ATX board and does not feuture a plx chip.
  • 2: Asrock X99 WS-E, which is also a E-ATX board, which does feuture a plx chip
  • 3: Asrock X99 WS-E / 10G, also E-ATX which feuture a plx chip and 4 lan ports from which two 10Gb/s

If you need the ability to utilze the full 40 gen3 lanes on X99, you basicly should go with a 5930K instead of a 5820K.
Not sure if its realy worth it, but that depends on if you gonne utilize alle those lanes.

My bad, sorry

It is a very stable board but be warned it's UEFI CSM module doesn't always work as intended.

If that's the case, then I highly recommend this over the WS:

Otherwise your going to need a 5930k to use that other board to its full potential.
