Looking to change out the PSU because the old one didn't enough amps on the 12 volt rail for a 690. I'm not as familiar with PSU after the $75 dollar mark so asking the community on what they have experience in.
Requirements
Needs to be more than 46 amps on the 12 volt rail, and be at least 850 watts gold or platinum for American (115? volt wall outlet).
Optional
Modular is welcome but not required.
Featureless is fine as it just needs to deliver power.
Quiet is preferred.
I would like to avoid Corsair (Seasonic) PSU of this range as a lot of reviews complain about "chirping".
I have no problem trusting not as big name brands. The little guys deserve a shot of recognition too.
690? 650W would be perfect. For you, I'd get a Seasonic X 650, which hits 80+ Platinum under cold load, has an amazingly low ripple, and none of the issues that you hear about "chirping," which is most likely a fan issue. Amazing unit, I love mine. If you want to sleeve, the double wires are a bit annoying, but better than having to deal with Ys, or other annoying nuisances that come with many PSUs.
So I know it's been a while but I've been busy with the semester of college starting. I just wanted to type a quick thank you.
The XFX was a re-branded seasonic and since you both recommend it in a way. I went with a Seasonic. So far everything about it has been fine. On whatever scale you'd rate a power supply on delivering power and not blowing up in the process. It's quieter which is a plus.
* On the side note I've been pondering my case's airflow. In a experiment while changing out the psu I changed an intake into an exhaust and knocked about 3-4 Celsius off the idle temps.
