Upgrading my surface pro 1

hey everyone! I was wanting to upgrade my surface pro  1 ssd to a 240 gig ssd and was looking for a good recommendation. I was stupid a few years back and got the 64 gig one.  i'm not sure on the specifics  of the hard drive needed, however i have read that i will need to clone the existing ssd due to Microsoft difficult.

thank you!

I would probably start by looking on ifixit to see how easy it is to replace and take apart a surface pro 1. I personally have no idea as I havent looked before but they are fairly unibody so I suspect it would take a heat gun and prying tools?

Just noticed this was a year ago... Tek Syndicate really needs to keep on top of old redundant posts....

yeah, its all good. i ended up swapping it over to Ubuntu that handles external memory like sd cards much better for things like installing software. but thanks for the response, i actually forgot i wrote this post...

Wait, so you're running Ubuntu on the SP1?

yes, and it runs great! The only problem is the built in WiFi adapter is buggy, but it runs like a dream. other then that Ubuntu 15.10, you don't need to jump through any hoops, like messing with the kernel in order to get it to work.

And the touch interface works well, you say? Well damn! I think i may have found a new project for my SP1. Thanks man!

the touch works in unity, in my opinion it works better in gnome. my only gripe is that the pinch to zoom wont work, everything else works fine on the touch.

Thanks for mentioning this. I'll give it a whirl when i have the time to sit and tinker with the machine. Should give the machine more oomph. Windows is getting too bloated for mine
