OK...

Built my system a year ago, been itchin' to do some more tinkering.

currently:

CPU - AMD 8120

MB - Gigabyte GA-990FX-UD3

GPU - MSI Twin Frozr II 6950

I am running stock cooler on the cpu :(  so I want to upgrade that for sure. My main question however is in regards to my GPU. I've tried to look for another 6950 the same as mine to do a crossfire without luck. So now I'm trying to decide on doing a crossfire 7870 XFX, or single 7970. The 7870 are about 200 bucks right now, and the 7970 is around 350 ish so both scenarios are relatively comparable in price. I'm just looking for opinions on what would be best setup?

I would wait about 20 days, and buy an 8970. AMD anounced them at CES this year and said that they would be coming late this month or soon after. Crossfire will always cause problems and if a game does not support multiple GPU's it will mean that it is just using one of the GPU's. Aslo with that CPU, your GPU's would be bottlenecked.

get an 8350 and newer radeon.
