Upgrading my PC

Hi there, I have recently upgraded my console to a PC and I am thoroughly enjoying my experience so far! I used Tek syndicate's guide of building a epic $600 - $800 gaming PC from February 2015 and now im thinking about upgrading even further ! The Specs for my PC are:
AMD FX6300
ASRock 980DE3/U3S3
ADATA XPG V2 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3
Corsair Force Series LS 120GB
HITACHI 0F10452 2.0TB SATA 3.0Gb/s
SAPPHIRE TRI-X OC 290X 4GB 5
DEEPCOOL TESSERACT WH Mid Tower

This was my first ever build and it went 'relatively' smoothly. Only problem would be that it crashes sometimes when i watch netflix or when i download games on Origin. Any help on that would be appreciated however the main thing i would like to know is what to upgrade first !
Thanks guyssss

What aspects of your PC gaming experience would you like to improve on? Graphics? Work and productivity?

Graphics and Performance preferably !

I'd probably upgrade that motherboard to something with more SATA3 headers and get a SATA 3 HDD or SSD to put programs onto and have that 120GB SSD solely as a boot drive. Getting a new mobo with more SATA 3 headers would probably only be justifiable if you have a lot of shit to be storing that you need fast access to, e.g. recording gameplay or editing video.

You've still got a spare SATA 3 header on your current motherboard anyway. You could still just get a SATA 3 HDD or SSD to help with launch times of games and programs that you're probably storing on that SATA 2 HDD of yours (You probably filled that 120GB SSD with programs pretty quick, no?).

You already have a 290X (from Sapphire too, nice) and crossfire doesn't work with some games so I'd have a look at what games you play, and if the majority support crossfire getting another might be justifiable. This'd probably be the most expensive thing to upgrade.

You could get an aftermarket CPU cooler too and venture out into the magical world of overclocking if nothing else sounds like it'll float your boat. I'm hopefully going to set off on mine in a week or so with my trusty 4790K (getting a Cryorig R1 Universal, probably). If you've got a larger budget you could go with a 240 or 280mm AiO.

Maybe that money into good periph, freesync is a thing now, could get a monitor.
And honestly, if you're happy with the performance in games, you might just want to wait. Normally you should just go for the upgrade whenever you have money, I've got a 3570k and a 780 which are 'super-old', but I'm waiting. Broadwell is starting to roll out, freesync just came out, AMD needs to announce something soon.... and if I'm going to upgrade, I'd want both a new architecture and smaller node for GPU/CPU. Broadwell could be that, AMD has done nothing, Maxwell is still on 28nm. With dx12 around the corner, I'd want to choose hardware that can take advantage of that the most, not enough is known right now. Free/gsync panels are infants right now, I'm waiting for a bezelless IPS screen.

Yeah i did fill the SSD very quickly ! Thank you very much :)

Okay, ill keep your advice in mind! Thank you :)

  • Z97 mobo + 4690K, would be a nice upgrade, especialy if you play allot of MMO games. 4690K + Msi Z97 Gaming 5 for example.

  • THe 290X in my opinnion is a great card for 1080p / 1440p, i dont realy see any much reasons to upgrade that.

  • An SSD would be a nice addition.
