So currently my PC is
FX 6300
CM HYPER 212+
Asus M5A97 R2.0
6 Gb of RAM
and a 680
I only have a 1080p monitor maybe in the next year I upgrade to 1440p
I want to upgrade my video card but I have 2 options a 970 Strix or a EVGA 780 with reference design, note that the 780 is a little bit cheaper than the 970
On the other side, Audio I have a budget of 400 usd for a pair of studio monitors, currently my options are
Mackie Cr4, M-Audio AV40 or Presonus Eris 4.5
Should shoot for an R9 390 over the 970, has double the VRAM which really doesn't matter much, but overall it's faster at the same price.
Otherwise I ain't an audiophile, but you could get a 1440p korean monitor pretty easily, that'd probably do more for ya than whatever advantage those headphones are going to give you.
All those sets of speakers run about the $250 mark here in OZ so I dare say you should be able to get them for a lot cheaper than that in the US. Out of those 3 I've only heard the m-audio's at my local StoreDJ store and they're pretty nice. But like my BX5A's the power switch is on the rear of the units which is a pain in the arse if they're on a shelf, reaching around all the time if you want them off. So just for that having the front power switch on the Presonus would be nice.
Best way to choose a set of monitors is to take in your music player & plug into and play through a set at your local stockists. I was about to pull the tricker on a set of expensive h80 yamaha's before I heard the m-audio's.
With the gpu decision - out of those 2 options - the 970 for sure.
