Upgrading ideas are hard

So, I have a choice in regards to how I wish to do this.

I have a FX 8350, and a 280x in my rig with a SSD for windows 1 TB drive, with a hx750 Corsair providing the juice.

So I have three things I am considering.

First: I could not risk pushing my PSU so close to it's limit and crossfire my 280x with a 280 or 7950.

Second: just say **** it and do a 280x cross fire and make my corsair work for its home in my PC. Being so close to my watt limit makes me nervous.

3rd: get a new cooling system for my CPU and over clock it.

Is it worth it to eve crossfire? In your guys view? How good is the cross fire with a 280 with a 280x compared with 280x+280x? Is my CPU the weak point in y system? If so does overclocking that make ore sense than going for a GPU ugrade?

First and foremost ofc is "What is best for gaming?" Out of these.

I would just go for a 280x crossfire. That should be fine to run both cards, maybe even with a bit of overclocking. I would definitely upgrade your gpu before anything else. However, you may also want to look into a better psu soon. Your cpu is fine for now, there really isn't much gain to be had from upgrading from an 8350 to something like a 6600k. Wait until zen, if zen is good it'll drive prices down or you can get better performance, either way it's worth it to wait for cpu right now.

What games do you like to play and at what resolutions?

Best thing you could do is just overclock your CPU, depending on your case you'd either want a noctua cooler or a 240/280M AIO

Although overclocking depends on your motherboard, if your motherboard isn't really made for overclocking, well you might as well wait for zen/kaby lake before you upgrade anything, your GPU should be fairly well off still, I just played through MGSV on an 860k and a 7850 at 1440p with no issues.

If anything just buy a nice 4k display and set yourself up for the future

Total War games are first and foremost what I play atm.

I have a Saber tooth R2 board. So honestly the only thing stopping me from OCing now is the fact that I only have a cooler master Evo.

Also there is the question of DX12 which I know nothing of.

Actually I could actually likely OC a bit with my 212 Evo now... but idk by how much ofc

Also it is a 300R corsair case.

Total war is a CPU hog, so you pretty much have to have an OC'd intel CPU to run it well.

But still I mean you should be over 30fps at least, so if you can wait that'd be best, you'd be getting a 40-50% performance jump with kaby lake/zen for your money and end up with a fairly "future proof" platform

But ya just overclock

Thanks for the advice!

Think I could and overclock my CPU and get a R9 280 for crossfire without power issues?

I think I will just take a "wait and see" point of view to it for now, I am not near the point where I need to upgrade yet, Total war Warhammer is why I am considering so.

Thanks again for the advice!
