So, I have had my dt770 80 Ohms for a while now, and I have to say that they were a huge leap forward from my Logitech z906 speaker system.
Now I am looking for an upgrade with the same sound signature. A friend of mine has the Dt880 600 Ohms, but he uses them without an amp. Now, this might just be because of the lack of the amp, or the open design, but I feel like they have too much trebble for me, and lack the power of the dt770's.
So I am looking for an upgrade over my dt770's, which might very well be the 250 Ohm version of them. I would like to hear even more details in the music. I am planning to buy an o2 odac from mayflower, so higher impedance isn't really a problem. I do like the analytical sound of the dt770's, although many people say that they have allot of base, I would say that it is not too much for me personally.
I am sorry for my lack of term knowledge!
tl;dr :
upgrading from my dt770's, like their signature, suggestions?
Edit:
Budget is around 300-400 dollars. I do live in europe though, so please keep that in mind.
i have the 250ohm version, can't say i'm impressed, nowhere near enough bass for music and games, might keep them for movies which have way too much random sourceless bass these days to add tension i suppose. flame on audiophile cult members. good music has bass oh yeah love ma speakers and subwoooofer and usb headset rock aaawwwn!!!
I have the 990 250ohm and I enjoy them. They do have much less bass but are very VERY clear. I thought they sounded harsh in treble but once I got used to them I loved it.
If I have to believe that guide, I am looking for the Dt770 600 Ohm variant. It seems that the strange sound of the dt880´s that I heard at my friends home was because of the lack of amp.
unfortunately it seemst that the dt770´s 600 Ohm are discontinued...
They have basically the same sound signature only difference is that the 990s have more soundstage due the open design and little less punchy bass then the 770s.
I also doubt that you will regognize much difference between the 250 and 600 Ohm Version.
If you are looking for another set of bass heavy cans (which the dt770s really are) you might consider something like the Philips Fidelio X1/X2 or Vmoda Crossfade M100.
But I cant tell if these are better for your listening experience.
Like I said. The 770s are already really good basshead cans.
