I wanted to upgrade my build. First I'll tell you about the current state of it now and then ask you how could I upgrade it to today's standards.
I assembled this computer about 3 years ago.
Processor: AMD Athlon II X2 250
Motherboard: MSI GF615M-P33
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5670 1GB
Ram: Corsair Vengeance DDR3 2x4GB (new)
I wanted to upgrade it and got my eye on AMD FX-8350 Black Edition for CPU but I have very little knowledge about GPU's . And what should I look for in a Motherboard except a compatible socket? Is FX-8350 good choice? I'll probaly need new case and PSU since old one is only 550W. Did I miss anything?
Well You also need a 8+2 power phase for the cpu, they are over 100 USD. a 6+2 will do as well. A "budget" but good gpu would be a R9 270,lets you play games on ultra and it's not that expensive. a 550w psu will do.
asus m5a97 evo r2.0<asus m5a99fx pro r2.0<gigabyte 990fx-ud3 (latest version)<asus sabertooth r2.0<don't go higher.
fractal design define r4. i have 3 of them and i still love them. get the one with the side panel. if you don't care about the case take a corsair 200r. easy and it got everything you need.
