Upgrade question/help

Posted this on r/buildapc to no response.

Current setup:

  •     CPU AMD Phenom II X4 955 (3.20Ghz) Deneb 45nm Technology
  •     RAM 4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 513MHz (7-7-7-20)
  •     Motherboard Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. GA-790XTA-UD4 (Socket M2)
  •     Graphics 512MB GeForce 9800 GTX+ (EVGA)

The plan is to buy a new Gigabyte mobo, intel  i5 2500k or fx 6300 AMD processor, ram, etc...
But, can I buy a new video card and make this last me a while?

660Ti or 7870 preferrably.

I want my current machine to keep up with newer games but if it's not possible I'll upgrade.

BF3, Skyrim, etc... I can run them now but I would like to max them.

Thanks for any help.

 EDIT: anyone?

Buy a 7870 xt/tahiti le

I haven't heard of either of these cards. Thanks for the suggestion. My older mobo/cpu wouldnt bottleneck these too much?

Your cpu is fine. If you want to push it to the max until upgrade time, just OC it decently with a substantial cooler. And as for the card, its basically an upgraded version of a 7870. Think of it sort of as a 7930.
