My motherboard supports up to 2400mhz.
Also is it worth having higher speeds on a sandybridge cpu? My current cpu is a i7 2700k.

In gaming, the benefit from 2400 to lets say 1600 is well not worth the cost in my eyes, but we all have different budgets.I would not bother upgrading sir, money can be better invested elsewhere on your system for more performance.
