Upgrade from Intel i3 to Ryzen R7

So I finally saved my pocket money  and bought Ryzen. I figured since Linux had all the drivers in the kernel I might try just booting the same install on the new MB, CPU and Ram.

It seems to work ok. And I am swimming in threads now going from 2 cores to 8 cores.

Is there any pitfalls I may be overlooking just changing platforms and using the same install ?

For graphics it is unchanged an RX 480 running AMDGPU built into the kernel. The install is Fedora 25.

I dont upgrade my PC very often so I thought I would ask for comments.

on linux, probably not many, unless you have explicitly loaded specific intel drivers (which will then load even if the hardware no longer exists) .

on windows you will have all kinds of issues as windows probably wont even start or it might start to startup then a BSOD.

according to $micro$oft you need to reinstall and purchase a new key for your new hardware, even if you're replacing failed hardware...
yes there is a way around this and it's even provided by $micro$oft. if anyone is interested i'll detail it in a new thread.

it can be, but it can also be compiled as a module, in which case it would only load if applicable. Same goes for the intel stuff.

You could always recompile your kernel.
