Upgrade from a 6850

First post here(forgot my old account) so; Hello everybody :)

I'm currently using some stone age graphics card I that goes by the number 6850 o.O, in all seriousness it's a very capable card but it is starting to bottleneck me in modern titles, I'll be upgrading my CPU from a Pentium G860 to an i5 2500k(if you think this is a bad idea I'm open to opinions) and so I'll be upgrading my card too, I've not kept track of graphics cards since the 780ti hit a while ago and now I see this r9 and r7 thing from AMD I'm a bit confused, so I look to the great minds of the Tek Syndicate community for your assistance.

My budget is around the price of a 770, (about £200ish), I just need to run new and upcoming games(such as GTA V, Watch_Dogs, BF4 etc.) on decent settings without lag, I'm tired of stuttering and never managing a stable 50+ FPS on any settings.

Fancy features are nice but that is what I want mainly out of my gaming computer, If anyone can give me an idea or a rundown of the latest cards in that price range then that would be brilliant, I'm sorry if I'm asking quite a lot, but any help on the subject would be hugely appreciated. :)

Well I dont know the exact prices in the UK, but if you can find a R9 280X within your price range, that has good reviews in terms of cooling and sound, you should be pretty good as the 280X beats the 770 in most games.

Dont think you will find a 770 for £200 (not a good one anyway) R9 280's are going for £185 (rebranded HD7950's) and R9 280X's are going for £240 ish (rebranded 7970's) here in the UK both are great cards.

Good news, I broke the bank and bought a r9 290 from Sapphire for £283 on sale! :D

Well have fun with you R9 290 =D that's one beast of a card ! Does your PSU support it ?

Late reply but, yes, I didn't check but I have an XFX Pro 550w PSU and it's been running fine for over a week, max settings BF4 for hours etc., no issues
