As in subjest I have 5870 crossfired. This setup has some issues in my opinion. Well the crossfire works great in games optimised for PC's and Multi-GPU like Max Playne 3, Battlefield 3 but most of the games are poor ports from consoles and the crossfire is useless and sometimes causes to even loose performance. Also some wired bugs offten occur like I have to w8 for 5 minutes in Crysis 2 so the game will work properly after that time for no reason giving me very good FPS. And I am a bit anoyed about those bugs. I think about upgrading to GTX 680 or 7970. Witch do you think is best. I know the 7970 1GHz is the fastest but I think the GTX 680 will be more relaiable (because from my experiene the nVida has better drivers still not perfect but better). Also performance wise I think that those gpu's should give me consistant performance then 2x 5870 since with CF or SLI there are scaling problems and microstutter so GTX 680 or 7970 should give me as good performance as a 5870 with perfect scaling. What do you think? Is it a good idea?
if you are getting bugs on the screen take one 5870 out and start selling it and playing with one stable 5870. you should still max most games like that. next gen gpus are coming and by then you have one 5870 sold and you can start investing in those because 5870 corssfire is similar performance to a 680 or 7970 so its a pointlesss upgrade.
I know it that the performance wise the 2x 5870 are similar performance to GTX 680 but only games as I recall when I can use their full power are BF 3, Max Payne 3 and maybe something else (well I mean the titles exactly optimised for PC) so very few titles are capable to use CF 100%. And even when I play BF 3 there are bugs for example to run it properlly I have to press ALT + Enter to make it windowed then I have to go again to fullscreen to actually set the scalling right, next in crysis 2 I have to w8 like good 2-3 minutes to let the scaling stabilize and get the FPS as they should be that is ridiciolus and I am a bit tired of it. The bugs are so stupid and AMD does nothing to fix them. So what I mean that GTX 680 should be more relaiable and consistant in it's performance than my CF setup. I've never realized how buggy is CF. So thats why I concider to upgrade.
I undersdtand the bugs lol. thats why im saying take one out and overclock the other and just use one till the next gen cards come. they will be here in 2-3 months. 680 and 7970 will go down in price or you may just pick up the 780 or 8970. i would just be patient but if you really are in a hurry i would choose the 7970 becuase its slightly better then the 680 and cheaper.
