So this is really more of a confirmation than a question. An update has been released for the honor 5x which updates it to android 6.0 but for some reason not all phones are getting the update automatically and since it has been a few weeks I don’t think the company is going to fix this issue. I’m guessing it’s something to do with regions since it is a Chinese company. Anyways there is an official OTA for download but I have my phone rooted and twrp installed. After a bit of research I found out that you can’t install OTAs with twrp. So I just want to make sure that the only way to get the update would be to either restore the stock recovery thus losing all of my data again after I just finished restoring it from rooting it a little bit ago or wait for the company to fix the problem with automatic updates which may never happen. Becasue if that is correct then that’s pretty stupid.
Updates are usually delayed by the carrier - not the manufacturer.
And yes - if TWRP wont to OTA, then you would have to revert to stock rom.
oh yeah I totally forgot about the carriers but that just means that it will probably never happen since my carrier isn't one of the big 4. I guess I'll just stay on android 5 forever.
2h hours ago i didn't even know a update was available, so thanks for that.
It wouldn't update by itself, I needed to get the huawei hicare app through the play store (now it's installed twice on the phone), but with the version from the playstore it updated just fine to android 6.0.1. So maybe you wanne try this too.
(As for region lock: I am german and I bought the phone directly without any carrier.)
*edit: overread the root ... dunno if this works then
Yeah it won't even let me download the app. It says it's not compatible with my device. Thanks for the help though.
