UPDATED: FX8350 4.6GHZ Temps

Hey everyone, me again! So i was up late last night and found ROG ASUS did a guide on how to OC your fx8350 on the crosshair formula V motherboard.  So i when't on the safe side and did a 4.6ghz OC and had the voltage at 1.5v and was slightly concern at the temperatures (im a afraid cat when it comes to temperatures i swear)

I ran prime95 small fft for about 5-8 minutes and the temps got to 73c and slowed but it seemed to me like they where still climing. i shut off prime 95 and the temps whent to the ussual hovering range of 38 on the socket and 20s on the CPU its self

If you are concerned with the temperatures, back it down to 4.5GHz. Most FX8350's really hit a wll around there and need alot of volts to push higher

Ouch, 73 is a no-no for the 8350.

1.5 to get a stable 4.6... that is terrible

i thought mine was bad (4.6@ 1.452v), what nickf said, back it down to 4.5 and try to get that voltage down as much as you can.

73... i start to panic when mine gets to 60 :D

look at your cpu fan speed, your fans are on silent low rpn mode. you need to set your cpu fan control in the bios, or atleast ramp up your fan speeds.

Mine need almost 1.5 Volts for 4.6 GHz, lowest I've been able to make it stable at is 1.488 Volts under load, but that can give me some long term instability (I only reboot if I really have to) so usually I let it climb to 1.5 Volts under load. I can do 4.8 GHz, but that takes quite some more voltage, so I stay at 4.6 and have very nice temps instead.

And yeah, 73 C after less than 10 min of prime is bad. Remount, let the fans run at full speed etc.

AMD specifies max "safe" temps under load to be about 70C, so 73 isn't catastrophic. But reaching it after less than 10 min of prime is pretty bad. The CPU should throttle itself at about 80C, and shutdown at about 90C to avoid damage. 70C will not kill a 8350.

i let the asus ocing utility oc my 8320, it set it to 4.4GHz. doesnt go above 58c under stress test. if you want i can screenshot my voltages and clocks when i get home from work (same cooler, on an asus 990fx pro r.2 mobob)
