Hello everyone,
My boss would like to update his desktop at work. He is looking for something beefy that can handle a large amount of photography editing, media rendering and many other applications. He does graphic design for embroidery, direct print and heat printing. Additionally, he is an advanced user with Adobe Photoshop. He will soon begin rendering video for a web series.
My goal is to build him a machine that will power through any rendering tasks presented. I was asked to stay build something close to $2,500, which I know can buy a pretty beastly machine. He already has the monitor, keyboard and mouse, so he only needs a tower, but he wanted to update one of the monitors he has. What do you guys think of the specs I found using a "Build Your Own PC" site? It's currently priced at $2657.99, so I would want to trim some things off.
Honestly with that kind of work you should be looking toward x99 for such an environment.
I made something to suit your needs a little better.

I left a small amount of room if you needed anything else. I think I would try and stretch for a bigger SSD if you can. I just really like that particular SSD as it works really well for me.
Those are the only two things I would consider upgrading for. (I am not sure if you would like that RAM color in it, try and find the black or white ones of that. Same price, just got lazy.)
the 780ti and R9 290 get similar performance in openGL and OpenCL environments, like the newest version of the Adobe suite. the 290 is much cheaper.
in an office environment- having all those fans will create a massively loud, annoying computer. a fractal define R4 will both look more professional and sound more professional.
the 3tb drives have a higher failure rate then a 2tb drive, and it has no backup- why not three 2tb drives in a RAID 5. giving you 4tb usable space and the ability to survive a catastrophic drive failure.
the RAM in that set up is needlessly flashy, its a productivity set up. not a fancy gaming rig. current low speed (2133Mt/PS) DDR4 does not generate enough waste heat to need a heat spreader. you can save $15 by ditching them.
the dual tower noctua out preforms the small closed loop systems, so i'd get that.
and a 750w gives you all the horsepower needed.
an asrock Extreme6 will work nicely, I've heard great thinks from friends, I'm more of an Asus guy really...
I also went with a USB WIFI dongle because honestly- this should be on a CAT5e cable. seriously. hardwire the internet. forget the Wifi.
that said- it is a USB 3.0 802.11 AC wifi dongle.

with the savings, I upgraded the 5820 to a 5930 and still came out around $2487 (2461 without the wifi.)
Thanks for all of your answers!
