So I have my printer installed over the network as a network printer, but when I try to use Windows’ built in Windows Fax and Scan program to try and scan a document, it doesn’t work. It gives me this message:
“No scanners were detected. If a scanner is installed, make sure that it is powered on and connected to the computer, and then try again. For information abut adding or troubleshooting scanners, see Help and Support”
I’ve had this working before, but I had to reset our ISP network modem, WAP, and router combo. Any ideas?
Last time I messed around with this app for an hp printer you had to download it from the microsoft store. Wouldn’t let me install the app from hp’s site.
The other thing is usb will not work until you’ve connected the printer via wireless and it up with hp’s monthly ink on demand service!
I hate this company so mutch. So you telling me. If you don’t pay the subscription. The usb is not working. Isn’t this printer to old for that bs. The last time Hp made good printers is almost 30 years ago. They are not the respectable company anymore they used to be
I can’t almost not believe its not showing up on usb. Even under linux ?
Ugh… inkjet printers suck, and HP inkjets even more so. I fully intend to get a laser printer sooner or later, and preferably not a HP. Currently I have a HP Envy 5030 connected to wifi (configured via printer’s menu), and luckily both printing and scanning work seamlessly from Linux using ‘driverless’ drivers. Windows also has ‘driverless’ drivers now, so my wife’s Windows 10 laptop can also print. Not sure about scanning from Windows, and I also didn’t check USB (because why would I use that if I can print via wifi?).
if you are willing to boot Linux, checking if lsusb or dmesg show any change after connecting the printer via USB may help identify if it is a hardware issue; I doubt HP is would dynamically changing vendor and product ids to thwart USB mode.
If you are concerned about security, an old printer on the network is a potential problem, but also transmitting scan/print data over a wire is just generally safer.
