What do you guys think about this? there was a poll done a while back on whether or not porn should be blocked in the uk, something like 6000 people entered in the poll and it was a 50/50 as to block it or not.
Personally i think young people will be able to find ways around it easily.

It is the thin edge of the blade they are trying to walk. I agree children should be protected from hardcore sites be them sex, violence or whatever one as a parent would not normally allow. As an adult however you are now looking at informing government or whoever the watchdog of this is of what your personal preferences are. Now we cross into the infringement of privacy of what consenting adults want to watch in the privacy of their own homes. As a parent who had younger children during the earlier years of the internet I kept an eye on what they watched as the computer was in the living room. Harder today with all the phones and tablets available to children today. Tough call.
I've never thought of it that way Evo. I personally think that filtering the internet like that is unnecessary, since you can use your own filters to block access to sites, rather than a filter covering everyone in the uk that you can choose to opt out of. In my personal opinion I think what they are doing is stupid, in the article they say about protecting a child innocence and how 2 in 5 11 year olds had seen something on the internet they didnt like (they didnt specify whether or not it was porn) But when i was that age i was by no means a little angel, I didnt even know what porn was at that age. So personally i think the excuse they are using is a bit stupid. Also, the companys that provide the internet here in the uk said it would be difficult (or next to impossible) to filter all the porn (i forget their exact words) and they said about how parents could set up their own filters. Although considering im 15 i suppose im a bit bias, but thats what i think.
Britain has always sucked at making porn anyways. Any British pornstar has to come to America to be in anything good. Britain is losing control, giving more rights to immigrants than their own native islanders. Pathetic society. And that pains me to say because half of my family is of British descent. The BNP is probably the last true chance to save the Union Jack. However I could really careless what they do in Britain, once a great empire, now the folley of the world.

@Torgo. umm thats a bit extreme. People from other countries dont have more rights, they just much harder to deal with becuase they play the Racism card and becuase of EU laws. I dont want to start an argument, but I dont agree with the BNP I think everyone should have equal rights. And what does that have to do with the Government putting filters on porn?

as for the porn thing, i personally think it's the parents resposibility to shield there children from porn not the goverments. our goverment need's to focus their attention on the real problems of society like debt, poverty, education, employment, crime, habitual drug user's, political and economic reform.
As a child in the days of dial up I was far more adept at finding porn, the anarchist cookbook and other no-no's than adults around ever where.
I can only think it's gotten easier as technology evolves.

as for the goverment trying to please everyone, that is the most bullshit i have heard in a while. our goverment are fucking over the poorerest demographic of our people to benefit the wealthy few. with insane pollicies and axing funding where it's needed the most and has done fuck all to restore UK industry to replace the income of north sea oil, service industry and administraion as these sources are failing us. so tell me how this is trying to please the majority of people let alone everybody? cause i dont think they are trying to do that at all.
and you think they should step into people domestic live's over porn? and do what? just ban it outright because of a view discrepencies that have led too no real physical or psycolgical harm to society? also how can you account for every parent in the uk? oh wait you can't. all the goverment should do is make a better effort to ensure parents are better educated in things like IT. not try and control them.

Just because the vast majority of parents in the uk dont know how to block porn doesnt mean the government should step in, a simple google search would tell anyone with enough sense and the ability to use a mouse and keyboard as to how to block porn on a computer, heck computers even ask if you want to set restrictions on it the first time you boot it up.
Also im pretty sure all the techies my age will figure out how to get porn anyway.

This is dumb any 14 year old kid can simply google how to get around uk firewall and be taken to zend2.com or some other online proxy and then surf all the porn they could want.
I get that some parents just arent fit and that people want the government to step in but the government is a terrible parent. The likely hood of a child being abused increases when that child goes into government care. All this will do is encourage mediocre parents to take less interest in their children because they no longer have to look out for their children online now the government is doing that.
And even if it did work and prevent kids from looking at porn who gives a fuck? OH SHIT 14 year old jimmy seen some boobs on the internet! Well I guess he is doomed to grow up to be a well balanced and productive member of society like practicly every other 14 year old before him. The real problem for children on the internet is pedophiles and censoring porn like this doesn't prevent that again it just increases the danger by giving parents a false sence of security.
This is just another example of a government that doesn't understand the internet making a fool of them selfs and generaly fucking shit up like they did with the whole cookie and piratebay thing.
