UK - Conservatives to introduce more surveillance powers

TL;DR - Conservatives won more than 50% of the seats in the House of Commons last night/this morning. Means they can pass pretty much anything they like.

Put replace thread with country!

I blame you @Kai

It's weird how everyone was so convinced that the election was going to be very close and then on the day it was nothing like the close result everyone was predicting.

I don't really care about that to be honest.
Just glad that Miliband didn't get in.

These were the powers the Liberal Democrats stopped in 2012.

Sad to see the Conservatives are so quick to do what they couldn't last term.

This is where the UK really needs a pirate party of some description.

Anyway, suppose we best get to trying to prevent this, any ideas?

Link it in with public sector cuts and let the unions do the work?

Soon the UK will no longer be part of the EU lolz... this is going to be worse than Thatcher, it will cause a lot of long-term misery in the UK. Thatcher eventually attacked Argentina to solve her own Gordian knot. Wonder what Cameron will do... mmm... he's a complete power hungry idiot, so... attack France?, attack Germany?, occupy Scotland like Northern-Ireland?... my bet is on Jordan or Egypt or something, I think he'll try to invade some Middle-Eastern country to get enough people killed in a effort to make others pay for his own mistakes he's about to make...

He'd better try to solve the environmental issues as soon as possible, for if Scotland becomes more independent, and if the ties with the European continent are severed... where are the ENglish going to run when the sea level rises? Lolz

So going back to the OP..... abandon ship while there is still time!

I just realised. The Tories wanted to scrap the Human Rights Act here as well. I think they'd have to leave the EU to get away with that.

Well it could be worse... imagine UKIP having won the elections... instant nazi soup lolz

They actually got 12.6% of the votes... There are quite a lot of ignorant people in this country.

It's funny that a lot of the areas with higher UKIP support had a smaller % of the population comprised of immigrants.

soon the UK wont be so united.

basically I read, its predicted as follows:

  1. come 18 months from now there will be an EU referendum, Cameron doesn’t hold his position well as a lot of back benchers want out of Europe.

  2. the SNP (scottish ) will call for a referendum at this point because they really DO want to be in Europe

  3. This time they will win, the United Kingdom will have finally devolved and England will be a smaller country ( probably less attractive to migrants too as it happens, although im not stating that as a positive, just an observation )

  4. In an ever increasing need to seem both a.) relevant on the world stage and b.) financially viable the TTIP and pretty much ANY other draconian law will be passed in order to capitalise on the 'special relationship' with the USA.

So yea, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow but soon and for the rest of your life it is totally unavoidable that Digital communications and digital retails /sales will be regulated and taxed to infinity .. Just like Australia.

Deal with it, at least its not raining all the time : ) .... ohh

Its also predicted that proportional representation and perhaps even a north / south devolution of England itself could happen which doesn’t seem too bad I guess

If that happened I think I'd claim Scottish citizenship.

I wish there was a party that was Socially Liberal, but economically conservative.

I'm pro Civil rights, I don't see any problem in 8 people deciding to marry if they want to...

The problem with the conservatives is their authoritarian moral stance. The problem with the rest is they live in economic crazy land.

I think that most of the electorate prefer a gilded prison.

The UK government has been spying on UK citizens for decades, it's nothing new. Here's some tips on how to make it a little more difficult for them:

I remember the last time the Conservatives had a majority government and it wasn't pretty, for a lot of people. If you're working class and down on your luck now, you ain't seen nothing yet. On the other hand if you've a decent job and money to spare, get ready to party.

The Conservatives only pledged a referendum. I highly doubt that enough people will vote to leave the EU for that vote to get anywhere.

Calm down on your conspiracy theories. He got voted in fairly just like any German minister would have. We dodged the war in Syria which the US tried to drag us in to last parliament. Tony Blair (Labour) was the one that did Iraq and Afghanistan.

That's only 12.6% guaranteed yes votes for an EU referendum. Thankfully the collective are smart so UKIP only ended up with 1 MP out of 650 so they really have little say.

Also @Zoltan the UK's big businesses have been telling the Conservatives (the party that they like the most) that an EU referendum is a bad idea and should be avoided. This is evidenced by HSBC worrying about the UK's future in the EU.

I posted this in The Lounge but I think it's worth noting here too. Conservatives aren't the best party but in an economic recession, which thanks to being a country of banks we're still recovering from, they are a good party to have in.

Now I ain't no conservative voter, I despise them myself, but there is a bright side to everything.
