so Im finishing up a new PC in the beginning of November and have decided to get a mouse keyboard and headset for it. the keyboard was easy the logitec G510 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823126100) immediately came to mind with the mouse im having a little bit more of an issue.
personally i absolutely love the way that cyborgs R.A.T. series looks (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826618005) somthing about the jagged angulay look really appeals to me. but between reviews and friends warnings ive been advised to stay away from them like a plague. I deffinately do not have $100 to dish out on a new mouse every month.
anyone know if theres a happy middle ground. or better yet an alternate product that will give me that sharp angular shape i like while not falling apart after 6 months of use?
also while im at it im looking for a good surround sound headset for less than $150 if anyone knows of one.
I would get the Rosewill RHTS-8206 5.1 Surround Sound Gaming Headphones, as for the mouse I would go with the Cyber Snipa Silencer Gaming mouse. I have it personally, it is an exellent mouse for the price. I do have a video review of it
wow that headset sounds pretty perfect. the mouse looks pretty cool too but im not sure it really works for the look im looking for. although it is a hell of a lot closer to what im looking for than the mouse i mentioned
Don't buy 'gaming' branded crap, or 'surround' sound headphones. http://www.overclock.net/t/871864/are-5-1-gaming-headsets-gimmick-overpriced-products
Instead buy some good quality 2.1 cans. I'd recommend the Audio Technica AD700 or A700. Ad900/A900 if you can afford it. You can get a clip on mic or a desk mic for voip if you need it.
Eh. I agree with Bek. For 150$, you should rather look at proper audio headphones (ATH, Beyerdynamic, Sennheiser, Denon, take your pick). "gaming" headsets are mostly marketing-plastered junk (at least if you intend to listen to music on them now and then), and "surround" headphones rely mostly on cheap equalizing tricks - there is no genuine surround because headphones are quite literally the two speaker-bundles right on top of your ears. Unless you know of a headphone that really has speakers some 2-3 meters in front of, to the side and behind you, it's just a cheap trick. Better yet, many audiocards have enough parameters in their control consoles to simulate the effects "surround headphones" rely on.
As for mice. Gigabyte has some surprisingly decent-looking mice, in fact (the "Aivia Krypton" and the "M7 Thor", as seen somewhere on this page http://www.gigabyte.eu/products/list.aspx?s=50&p=197&v=8&ck=14 . Also, Roccat's Kova+ is an interesting-looking mouse, maybe that suits your style? http://www.roccat.org/Products/Gaming-Mice/ROCCAT-Kova-/ . Also, if you want to have that Razer look without paying through the nose for ouroborous, then the Taipan is a simple/sleek option, imo (you already have the link for razers). ) Edit: OH, additionally there's the Thermaltake Level 10 M mouse (stupid name, but pretty interesting design/styling that might appeal to you if you like the rat: http://www.ttesports.com/products/product.aspx?p=39&g=ftr ).
I read the first lines of your statement and stopped dead in my tracks, I really hope you didn't already buy that keyboard. The idea of buying a $100 keyboard that isn't mechanical is completely ludicrous. If your going to buy a rubberdome keyboard, never spend more than $20, you're just throwing away your money.
Do some research into mechanical keyboards; if you're willing to drop $100 on a keyboard then the biggest hurdle for most people is already not an issue for you. There are many switch types you can choose from, springy blues, heavy blacks, etc. When it comes to peripherals the decision to delve into mechanical keyboards are easily the most rewarding choice I've made. Typing feels amazing on these boards and they are rock solid, can easily last 10 to 20 years, even if a switch does break, you can pull it out and replace it, don't need to trash the board.
So if you're willing to lay down the money, get yourself a mechanical board, if not, don't bother spending more than $20, anything above that is quite honestly lipstick on horse shit.
I already have a mechanical keyboard (Steelseries 6G v2) and i really love it and all but Ive also used my friends G510 and while the sound is nowhere near as pleasing it makes up for it in functionality and look. se my SteelSeries is...well...boring. and this particular build is all about the look. but if you can point me in the direction of a mechanical keyboard with light up keys (i play in the dark a lot) and media buttons for under $120 then i may consider it. the LCD screen on the G510 is nice but Ill live without it.
meh Id actually prefer the surround sound headset. I should have posted that this build is just as much about look as it is functionality. even if its just simulated surround sound to me its a lot more fun than a nice headset. as for gaming branded crap usually stuff branded gaming style have extra functionality (special buttons that do special shit) and a different look to them.. which is exactly what im going for in this build.
