UEFI linux dual boot on separate SSD

This is my first post in the forums although I've been following Tek Syndicate on youtube for a while now. So first of all hi everyone! :-)

In Logan's latest video for MSI WS60 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMU4anu9zwc&index=15&list=WL) at 11:42 mark he talks about not using Grub in his dual boot UEFI system.

I've always been a fan of linux and used different versions but always on a dual boot system. However this is the first time I've installed Windows 8.1 on a UEFI system and I don't want to mess that installation up.

So I purchased a separate SSD drive to have Linux installed. I want to use the same solution as Logan where I install Linux without a boot loader, have Windows start automatically at boot unless I specify I want Linux started using the F keys.

Can someone point me in the right direction on how to do this? Better yet, if Logan is reading this, please give us a tutorial on how to create a dual boot UEFI system.

Thank you.

So when you install Linux, GRUB (linux bootloader) will need a EFI file to work with secure boot.

Most distros do this automatically. But be safe and check if there is a partition called /boot/efi and the file type is fat32 with around 500MBof space.

If there isn't one you will have to add it.

I am a noob myself, the way I did it is disconnect windows harddrive connect your SSD and install linux
reconnect windows HD and go in the bios to choose the boot order if need be.

(most recent distro now have the EFIs)

Welcome to linux
