I got Ubuntu on my laptop and then i read this stuff about Ubuntu spies on you. I already know they got options for sending data for repairs and other stuff. I want to know if this is a concern or not.
At least the Unity DE collects and sends data you type into the searchbar to Amazon. Use GNOME or another DE to stop that. I don't know what other shenanigans Canonical is doing, though.
it's because of the amazon lens, just disable (privacy settings) or remove (sudo apt-get remove unity-lens-shopping) it and you should be good to go
They are now disabled as default apparently.
it was anonymous search data for what pages you went to on amazon related products. and it was overblown as a story because some people don't like others success.
Ubuntu is still very good. Unity is fine, but yes Gnome is nicer and doesn’t do anything like that. You can try Ubuntu Gnome or Kubuntu for KDE. There is an old-school version called Ubuntu MATE also now.
or check out Mint, or even plain old Debian.
mustard race
Only on official Ubuntu and that was disabled because it caused a controversy. Shenanigans like this are discovered quickly because the source is publicly available, unlike some other operating systems...
Thanks for the info.
