Hey everyone,
So I decided to try to make the switch to Linux (Ubuntu 14.04 GNOME) on my laptop (Lenovo y410p). However after using it for several months and ironing out a lot of kinks, I have run into a couple annoyances that I haven't been able to solve.
Annoyances:
1. I need to shut down every time I use my computer... for those of you who do not know, the y410p has both integrated intel and discrete nvidia graphics. Whenever I shut my laptop, it goes to sleep (as expected) but it makes a popping noise from the speakers (I will get back to this). When I resume, I am able to relogin and use my laptop for about 20 seconds before everything freezes. When it freezes, I cannot even drop to text based mode. To unfreeze, I have to manually hold the power button down until it turns off and then start up again.
2. The popping. Every time I turn on the computer, the speakers pop. Every time I turn it off, it pops twice just before fully shutting down. I have read several posts on the Ubuntu forums that claim that turning off auto mute and power saving mode will fix the problem.. but it doesn't.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I really don't want to stop using Ubuntu as my daily driver but these annoyances are turning into problems that effect my ability to work well.
Thanks in advance!!
