Ubuntu is randomly crashing into a static screen

Hey guys,

I posted this the other day and still haven't received an answer, I thought that someone here may be able to help. This has been occuring at least twice a day now, and I have no idea how to solve it.

Here's my PC Specs:

  • OS: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS w/ latest updates installed
  • Display Manager: Unity
  • GPU: MSI Radeon R9 280X (using open-source X.Org X server drivers)
  • CPU: Intel i5 4670K
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB

That looks like a graphics issues. What hardware you running?

This actually looks more like a hardware issue. The GPU maybe? Can you give us the PC specs?
