You beat me to it!!!
Hugely skeptical to this. Mostly due to Canonical being bought out by Amazon, they're bound to shove Amazon advertising down your throat unlike any of the other mobile OSes on the market, just like they are currently doing on their desktop OS. They even talk about "shopping" when describing the features which is highly disturbing. When I search for something on my computer or phone, I want my files, folders and programs, not recommended music and videos based on my "hotwhitegoo.txt" search. They're not giving the option to remove the ads through the GUI unless you apt-get purge it away in the terminal on the desktop version of the OS, so I doubt they'll allow the ads to be disabled on the mobile version, and even if they can be disabled through a line of text in the command prompt, they shouldn't be there in the first place.
I know there are ads on Android and iOS as well, but that's purely in third-party applications and not on the home screen or native applications. If the ads were exclusivlely in the third-party apps I wouldn't mind at all.
As for the entire OS, I think they're going in a good direction, however will Ubuntu have the same problem as Linux has today? The fact is that pretty much every consumer out there will never install a optional OS on their devices. They're going to be using what they're used to and what comes on the device pre-installed, even though it's incredibly easy to do. Unless there will be UbuntuPhones that come with Ubuntu pre-installed, I doubt they'll be able to top the Android or iOS market.
I'll be waiting for Mozilla's OS, that one might be quite interesting.

Thats true, and I also think this move will carry on hampering the adoption of Ubuntu/Linux as a Desk top OS.....as layman (like myself) only every hear about Linux in essoteric context of Servers and Embedded devices.
