Ubuntu - Firefox Watching Youtube randomly locks up system totally

Good day everyone,

I’ve been using Ubuntu for many years and only recently got a head scratching issue … not sure 100% what is the problem.

When I watch YouTube videos on my browser of choice [Firefox], randomly it will totally lock up the system all graphics freeze the keyboard is unresponsive [even pressing Caps Lock / Num Lock doesn’t change anything] but the audio continues to play.

I can’t bring up a console prompt [eg. CTRL-ALT-F5] and the only way to restart the system is to turn it off with the power switch.

I have looked at the log file after forcing the system off/on. From what I can see there is some error log relating to the Kernel; but I have only experienced this issue whilst watching YouTube videos on Firefox…the other day I was gaming for over 10-hours and had no issues.

For reference I have a RX570 and am using AMD propriety drivers; mainly due to gaming.
